Safety Trainer

Job Description Job Description POSITION SUMMARY The Safety Trainer is responsible for the safety-related content and delivery of Steel River's New Hire Onboarding program, along with other safety training opportunities across the organization's branches. Based in Cleburne, Texas, at or near Steel River Ranch, this role sits within Steel River's Safety department — reporting to the VP of Safety — and supports CraneTech, NACB, and Hunter Lift branches alike, distinct from NACB's customer-facing crane operator training and certification business. Beyond core safety training, this role may also support broader training development initiatives and help out at Steel River Ranch, the company's training facility, as needs arise. Flexibility and teamwork are essential to success in this role. WHAT STEEL RIVER OFFERS Medical coverage through Cigna, with a choice of three plan levels including an HSA-eligible option, plus dental coverage through Guardian (with an option that includes orthodontia) and vision coverage through Guardian VSP. Company-paid Basic Life and AD&D insurance, with voluntary options for supplemental life, short- and long-term disability, critical illness, accident, and hospital indemnity coverage. A 401(k) plan through Fidelity Investments with a company match — 100% of the first 3% and 50% of the next 2% of what you contribute — and eligibility to enroll on the first of the month after you're hired. Free, confidential counseling, legal, financial, and work-life support through the company's Employee Assistance Program, telemedicine covered in full, and a company wellness program. Paid time off that grows with your tenure, plus paid company holidays (including Veterans Day for veteran and active-duty employees). ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The functions below are essential to this position. This list is representative, not exhaustive; the employee may perform other related duties as assigned. New Hire Onboarding Own the safety-related content and delivery of Steel River's New Hire Onboarding program company-wide, ensuring every new employee — across CraneTech, NACB, and Hunter Lift — receives consistent, high-quality foundational safety training. Develop and maintain onboarding safety curriculum covering core topics such as PPE, hazard recognition, lockout/tagout, fall protection, and other topics relevant to the employee's role and work environment. Coordinate onboarding training schedules with HR, branch leadership, and new-hire start dates to ensure safety training is completed promptly and consistently. Administer assessments and track completion, ensuring onboarding safety training is documented and audit-ready. Branch & Organization-Wide Safety Training Design, deliver, and continuously improve safety training programs for existing employees across Steel River's branches, as training needs are identified by branch leadership, the Safety Coordinator team, or incident/audit findings. Travel to branches as needed (approximately 15% of the time) to deliver in-person training sessions, toolbox talks, and refresher courses. Partner with Safety Coordinators and branch leadership to identify recurring or emerging safety training needs and build training plans to address them. Maintain and update training materials, presentations, and any learning management system (LMS) content to keep pace with regulatory changes and company safety policy updates. Steel River Ranch & Cross-Functional Training Support Support additional training development initiatives beyond safety as needed, partnering with other teams (e.g., NACB, CraneTech branch leadership) on shared training projects. Assist with training delivered at Steel River Ranch, the company's training facility in Cleburne, Texas, including contributing safety-specific content or support to programs such as the Overhead Crane Technician Apprentice program's training weeks. Demonstrate flexibility and a team-first approach, pitching in on training logistics, facilitation, or content development outside a strict job description when the organization needs it. Compliance & Documentation Maintain accurate training records and documentation to support OSHA and other regulatory compliance requirements. Stay current on applicable OSHA standards and incorporate regulatory changes into training content promptly. Partner with the Safety department on broader compliance initiatives as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Education/Training, Human Resources, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience. 3 years of experience designing and delivering safety training, ideally in an industrial, field-service, construction, or manufacturing environment. Experience with adult learning principles and instructional design preferred. Certifications & Licenses OSHA 10/30 Trainer credential (OSHA 500/501, or equivalent), or willingness to obtain, strongly preferred. CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor certification preferred. Valid driver's license in good standing required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong presentation, facilitation, and public-speaking skills, with the ability to engage audiences ranging from new hires to experienced field technicians. Working knowledge of OSHA standards and safety practices relevant to industrial, field-service, or manufacturing environments. Experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) and standard training/content-development tools. Highly flexible and team-oriented, comfortable picking up tasks outside a narrow job description and pitching in wherever the organization needs support. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple training programs, schedules, and locations at once. Comfortable traveling to branches as needed and working cross-functionally with HR, Safety Coordinators, branch leadership, and other training partners (including NACB) on shared initiatives. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. WORK ENVIRONMENT Primarily Office/Classroom-Based, Cleburne, TX — with Branch Travel This position is based in Cleburne, Texas, working primarily from an office and classroom/training environment at or near Steel River Ranch, the company's training facility. Work includes developing training content and materials, coordinating onboarding schedules, and delivering classroom-style instruction, along with occasional hands-on support of training activities at Steel River Ranch. Approximately 15% travel to CraneTech, NACB, and Hunter Lift branch locations is required to deliver in-person training, observe training effectiveness, and partner with branch leadership and Safety Coordinators; this may include occasional overnight travel. Flexibility is essential — this role may be asked to support training needs outside its core safety focus, including general training development and logistics, as organizational priorities require. \nCompany Description Our goal is to dive into businesses that protect America’s infrastructure and inject them with fresh energy and ideas while honoring the legacy of the amazing people that built them.
