Toolmaker - Machinist

T oolmaker/Machinist - 1st shift 9/80 work schedule, every other Friday off Primary Responsibilities: Working independently, will perform a wide variety of tasks requiring a high degree of skill. Those tasks will include but are not limited to, design and fabrication of trim dies, working from prints to machine tight tolerance tooling, repair/maintenance of existing tools, assist with equipment and tool fabrication/upgrades as needed. Normal Duties: Following safe work practices, perform tight tolerance machining of tools using typical toolroom equipment such as lathes, mills (manual and CNC) and surface grinders. Must be capable working with solid models and of programming CNC machine centers. Must be able to read prints and sketches, understand tolerances and their affects on machining parts. Should be familiar with metallurgy; be able to assist in recommendations for tooling materials. Must be familiar with secondary finishing operations such as heat treating and tempering and their affects on parts so as to take those operations into consideration when fabricating tooling. Maintain associated paperwork to support ISO/TS-16949 initiative. Maintain reasonable stocks of tool steels and die sets to support business activities. Work with Engineering to design and develop tooling and equipment upgrades to reduce costs, improve productivity or part manufacturability. May be required to work with outside vendors and contractors. Other duties as assigned. Normal Working Conditions: Will be exposed to oils, coolants, greases, maintenance and production chemicals. High temperatures, tight working spaces and time restraints will not be unusual. May be required to assist with equipment installations and upgrades.
